Election seminar
ORLEANS - The Election Seminar at Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School hosted a panel discussion last week, which included four prominent, politically active local citizens. Times columnist Cynthia Stead and Orleans Selectman Dave Dunford represented the Republican ticket while Jennifer Smith and Paul Hush stood in for the Democratic slate. Students in the seminar questioned them on a broad range of topics, from national and international issues to local concerns about how kids can enter into the political process. The tone was one of passionate civility and the students left with both a deeper understanding of party platforms as well as a renewed fervor to participate. The students in the seminar have been gathering polling information throughout the Underground Plaza and ran a plaza-wide election Tuesday.
The results of the election were, president, Barack Obama, 168; John McCain, 46; others, 15; state representative, Sarah Peake 156; Don Howell, 53; Question 3, ban greyhound racing, 173 yes, 25 no.
