File Compatibility Tips
For students with home computers lacking Appleworks / Clarisworks
Virtually all of the Charter School's computers use the Macintosh operating system, while most people's home computers use Windows. For best results when exchanging computer files between different computers, applications and operating systems, save your work in a generic format so that it is readable by the application on the other machine.
To save your work in a generic format...
Wordpro docs (e.g: Word) should be saved as Rich Text Format (RTF) or* ASCII Text (most compatibility, but text styling is lost).
Spreadsheets (e.g: Excel) should be saved as SYLK or* ASCII Text.
*For greatest liklihood of success, save your file in multiple formats.
For students with Macs and iWork '09 (or newer)
The school has iWork '06. Files created at school can be edited by your newer home version, but in order to then edit that work at school, you must save it (at home in) iWork '06 format (look for that choice in the SaveFile dialog). Furthermore, iWork '06 files must be compressed before attaching them to an email (Control-click the file in the Finder and choose 'Compress <file name>'.
