Japanese Exchange - Intro
Dear Lighthouse Families,
Continuing to build on the success of the past homestay exchanges with our Japanese sister school in Matsuymam-machi, the Lighthouse School will be organizing a delegation of 12 students to visit Japan in August, 2005. We anticipate visits to Japan will continue to take place every other year, alternating with their students visiting Cape Cod. The Lighthouse School delegation will stay with Japanese host families and have a chance to visit Matsuyama Junior High School. Our students will also participate in a number of cultural activities such as visiting a Buddhist temple, assisting in a traditional tea ceremony, and touring the remains of a samurai castle.
The projected cost of the homestay, per student, including round-trip airfare to and from Matsuyama, activity fees and incidentals, will be approximately $2000. Fund raising events are being planned and these efforts will lower the cost per student. The homestay itself will be free and the town of Matsuyama provides our group with transportation while we are in Matsuyama.
The students will be selected on the basis of a written essay, oral interview and criteria that have been generated by a committee of teachers. The Japanese Homestay Selection Committee will look for the following qualities among the applicants:
We ask that both the student and partner/guardian please sign the following agreement and return it along with the application to the student's homeroom teacher no later than Monday, November 1, 2004.
By signing, I, ________________________, agree to take part in the above mentioned activities if I am selected to participate in the 2005 homestay in Japan.
