The Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School has inducted 36 students into its new chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. The ceremony took place at the Brewster Ladies' Library on January 8, 2009.
The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
The CCLCS NJHS chapter's first goal is to serve the school community. Students will serve as peer tutors and mentors to help students in across the curriculum in all grade levels. The chapter then hopes to reach out to both the local community and to the nation at large by participating in a series of outreach programs and service projects.
