Art Spark

Art Spark program a big success

CCLCS students have been enthusiastically participating in a unique after-school arts enrichment program twice a week in the studio at school this year. Parent/artist Paula Burns and CCLCS Art Teacher and "Art Spark" Coordinator, Debby Greenwood, have been working with the students for several hours each week - thanks to funding provided by a grant from the Virginia Wellington Cabot Foundation.

Thirty-five students created prints, sculptures, mosaics, paintings, comic books and animations during these classes. Session 1 for 2009-10 ended late in January and students are anxious to start anew with Session II in February.

Additional funding for an Art Spark trip to Boston on Friday, March 5 has been provided by the Big Yellow School Bus Program of the MASS Cultural Council. This year students will attend a Youth Concert at the Boston Symphony and visit the MFA in Boston. Another exciting feature for "Art Spark" this year will be a special program in May that will feature a collaboration with Orleans Senior Center, Dancer/Artist Rebecca Burrill and professional guest musicians. Students and seniors will write the script, create the costumes and create a multi-media performance for an audience. This experience is funded by the MASS Cultural Council through the Orleans Cultural Council Grant program. Student work created in "Art Spark" will be featured in a special exhibit at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in Yarmouth from March 16 -22.
