Grade 6:
Social Studies - There will be a quiz Thursday on Latitude and Longitude.
Grade 7:
Immunizations - Parents of students not in compliance for 7th grade required immunizations have been notified. Please send in documentation ASAP.
Rec classes - In last week's notes to home, I said that we would be running the mile this Wednesday. Unfortunately, there will be a substitute teacher in for me that day. We will postpone the running of the mile until the week after Sea Camps. Thanks! Miss Allie
Science - Parents, It's time for students to get serious about their study habits, get focused in class, come prepared, get involved, read their resources, study, and learn the assigned material. There is a lot to learn this year in Science, lessons are sequential. No winging it in Science!
Social Studies - We will be VERY BUSY this week and next! Students will have their first in class essay on Friday for which they will prepare on Thursday in class. They will also be working on a study guide for their first test which is on Tuesday October 4. We will review in class for the test on Monday when the study guides are due. Students absolutely, positively must manage their time well this week and next and should be reviewing their notes nightly. The study guides will be handed out Wednesday.
Spanish - We are still reviewing the material introduced in World Language last year ("El Primer Paso" -- The First Step); in addition, we have begun a mini-unit in cognates, which are literally thousands of words that are identical or nearly identical in both spelling and meaning in both English and Spanish -- in other words, they are GIFTS! They do not sound the same, however, when spoken or heard, so we are using them to practice our Spanish pronunciation. Ask your student to teach you a few of them this week! Gracias for your support.
Grade 8:
Language Arts - More Shakespeare....we are into Act 1 in Much Ado and students are slowly grasping the Bard's language. More reading this week. We finish up reading "Spunk," by Zora Neale Hurston and will start "Lady or the Tiger" by the end of the week. This week, we learn to write our intro paragraph for a thesis essay and then we will write a full thesis essay on "Lady or the Tiger." Hopefully, we will have a rough copy done by next week (before Sea Camps). I will keep you posted.
Spanish - Hola! We are still reviewing the material learned last year, and students should be adding 10 minutes to their nightly homework in order to look over their vocab sheets and flashcards. In addition, we are continuing a mini-unit begun last year on Spanish-English cognates, and are adding 6 more categories onto the 6 we explored in 7th grade. In the end, we will be creating "Spanglish" rap songs with the thousands of cognates available to us.
