Notes to Home for the Week of January 23, 2012

General:

Final Admissions Open House Tomorrow Evening - 6 p.m. Last chance to make sure your friends and neighbors with 5th grade students get to come get the CCLCS staff lowdown on the school. It's so much more inspiring than a handout.
Are all 5th grade sibling applications in? Deadline is noon on February 13th.

Happy Basket - If you plan to contribute something silly and cheerful to Mrs. Scich's Happy Basket, tomorrow's the deadline. Thank you.

All - Reminder about the dance this Friday, January 27 from 6:45-8:30 PM at Orleans Elementary School. Chaperones are still needed. If you can chaperone for any part of that time, it will be greatly appreciated. Please contact the office if you can chaperone. Water bottle donations are also being accepted. Please pick your child up promptly at 8:30. Also, if your child is going home with a friend, please send in a note. Only students who are present in school on Friday are allowed to go to the dance. Thank you very much.

Applications - Applications are now being accepted for students entering 6th grade in September 2012. The application deadline is Monday February 13 at 12 noon. Music:

String Ensemble - STRINGS! It's here! Concert week! Please remember to bring your instruments and music to school tomorrow (Tuesday) because we have a school concert during the day. All musicians should try to take one of the first vans over to the church after lunch so that we can get tuned up and even try to play through one piece in the church. Grade 6:

Immunization Clinic - Will be held here at the school on 2/7/12, free of charge for all 6th graders. Letters were sent out last month indicating what vaccines were needed for each student. If you would like to participate please send in the permission forms ASAP. If your student has already received these vaccines, send in documentation. It is much easier to have this done now and not wait until summer. Students who are not in compliance may be excluded from school.

Grade 7:

Social Studies - Today was the second project check in; seems like there were a lot of computers "on the fritz" last night. Next Monday is the third check in and the article is due. I am working hard to update Jupiter Grades so that it accurately reflects all completed and missing work. I appreciate the students who have brought issues to my attention and I hope to fix them all this week!

Spanish - The students have a vocab quiz on 2.1 Thursday (WX group) or Friday (YZ group). Gracias!

Grade 8:

Spanish - Hola! There is a 7.1 vocab quiz scheduled for Thursday (YZ group) and Friday (WX group).
In other news: In class, we are going to begin writing letters to children in Mexico. These children live in an area that is being helped by a group called "Casitas lindas" (Pretty houses). Two Brewster residents who belong to the group will be going there in February to hand deliver the letters, and they have asked that we gather up some light-weight classroom supplies that they may bring down with them. These children are disadvantaged economically, and so any donations such as pencils, pens, small notebooks, tape, etc. that you may be able to contribute will be much appreciated. Muchas gracias!!

Club Schedules:

Art Spark - Art Spark will meet this Wednesday from 2:45 until 4:45. This is the last meeting for this session. Students are reminded to bring a healthy snack if it is their turn.
