Grade 7:

All - Our trip to the Museum of Science is next WEDNESDAY JANUARY 11! We still do not have permission slips from the following students: D. Bach, E. Butler, M. Dexter, M. Ferro, G. Gent, T. Graham, C. Kelly, K. Leonard, S. Lincoln, J. Petterson and N. Tsoukalas. Additionally, we do not know whether the above and following students are to be picked up at exit 6 or 12: S. Bago, J. Garcia, K. Harris, A. Higgins, R. Kelly, O. Kennedy, N. Marshall-Torres, K. McDermott and T. Sci. Please email Mrs. Garran at dkgarran (at) gmail.com Lastly, in the next few days we will contact parents of students who are ineligible to attend due to a less than 80% homework completion. Thanks! We look forward to this exciting trip!

Social Studies - A new year and a new unit -- we will begin our study of Egypt this week! I hope students will resolve to complete all of the homework thoroughly and on time in 2012! Lots of reading and writing in the next few weeks. Students will continue to have homework EVERY night. A project will be assigned in the coming weeks. More information to come...

Spanish - Hola! A reminder from Senora L. that the 'Christmas in a Hispanic Country' project is due in tomorrow. Gracias!

Grade 8:

Cape Cod Tech - On Thursday, January 12, students interested in considering CC Tech for 9th grade will spend a half day at the school for tours and information gathering. Signed permission slips available on the CCLCS office door, must be returned for those attending. Only students seriously interested in attending CC Tech should participate. Permission slips are due back this Thursday, January 5, so we can give a head count to the Tech.

Language Arts - The Pigman project is due tomorrow. We will talk more about it in class today, but students should be ready to present tomorrow, with their speech and project in hand. Grammar Demon unit resumes today. We learn page 4 and there is a quiz tomorrow. We will try to do two-three pages a week and will hopefully have a test in 3 weeks. Finally--- I am really, really excited to begin To Kill A Mockingbird later this week. The book is dense and can be a jump for many kids, but we will listen to some parts of it in class to help with comprehension. I encourage kids to get their own copies so they can mark them up, but I have tons of copies for everyone, in any case. Also, audio versions are available on Itunes and in the library. Today, we will begin with some historical perspective (Civil Rights Movement, Depression, and the Jim Crow Era), which will continue throughout the novel; but it's hard to teach all of those historical periods while also teaching the literary aspects of the novel. I could spend the rest of the year on this book! We will do our best of course, and anything you would like to share at home or with the class is welcome.

Science - A reminder that the crystal project and lab report is due NEXT TUESDAY, JANUARY 10th. Please be sure to follow the lab report guidelines.

Social Studies - Our Mid Year exam is next week! This will be covering material from September -December. Students are receiving study guides and writing prompts today and tomorrow, and should be "journaling" about what new study techniques they are trying for homework each night. More details are on Jupiter grades.

Club Schedules:

Art Spark this Wednesday - Art Spark starts up again this Wednesday from 2:45-4:45. Please remember to bring snacks if it is your week to bring healthy snacks... remember, they need to be "peanut free."

New Girls Group - I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls." -Audrey Hepburn
Come join our new after school girl's group! Being a teenage girl can be be really hard... or really fun and exciting. Our club is open to all grades, and will tackle issues like friendships, attitudes and stereotypes while getting to know ourselves better! A combination of conversations, creative activities, and off campus FUN is the plan! (We may even get some yoga in smile
The club will meet starting January 9th from 2:45-4:15. Pick up will be at CCLCS unless noted otherwise. Please contact Ms. Kast (hkast (at) cclighthouseschool.org) or Mrs. Crema (cc (at) cclighthouseschool.org) with questions or to sign up! We look forward to hanging out with a great group of girls!

Sewing Club - a new Club at CCLCS! - Students are invited to signup for our newly formed "Sewing Club" that will meet most Thursdays after school beginning this week in Mrs. Garran's room from 2:45-4. This club is being formed to give students an opportunity to have fun sewing their favorite projects with others who share their love of hand or machine sewing. Please sign-up in advance at the Main Office as space is limited to 6-8 students. No experience is necessary, but since we only have 1 sewing machine, you are invited to bring your machine to school that day or you can have fun learning embroidery and other hand-sewing techniques.
