Notes to Home for the Week of January 30, 2012

General:

All - The Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School is proud to announce the Seventh Annual Lower Cape Relay for Life Event. Each year, we have sponsored a team of parents, students and staff who will join us in the fight against cancer. Cancer has touched us all, within our school, our community, and for many of us, within our own families.
So, we fight. This year, the Relay for Life Event will take place on Friday, May 18, where we will join many other teams in the walk at Nauset Middle School. This is your chance to make a difference--to celebrate a person you know who is a survivor or who is currently battling cancer, or to honor someone who has lost their battle, and fight on in their memory.

If you would like to be part of our school team, come and learn more next week. We are scheduling our first organizational meeting for Wednesday, February 8, at 2:45 in Mrs. Wilkinson's room. Please come if you can! Thank you! Mrs. Amaru and Mrs. Lay.

All - The Ski Trip was a total success! Thanks to Melissa Foley for taking charge of the nuts and bolts of the trip. Melissa reports, "the trip went beautifully. The chaperones were excellent and I couldn't have asked for anything better, with the exception of the conditions. The conditions were kind of awful, but the kids didn't care! Wonderful bus driver and a great stop at Wendy's made the trip complete. Get ready for the next one at Waterville Valley!"

Applications - Applications are now being accepted for students entering 6th grade in September 2012. The application deadline is Monday, February 13, at 12 noon. No applications will be accepted after this time. Siblings of students currently enrolled at CCLCS must submit an application by the deadline as well.

Lots of ill kids - Please, please, if your child is sick keep them home. And don't forget to call in an absence. If they run a fever, they must be fever free for 24 hrs. before they can return to school. At this time of year we have many viruses going around. To protect yourself & your family remember to eat well, get plenty of rest & exercise, and wash your hands frequently.

Pampered Chef Fundraiser - Last years Pampered Chef Fundraiser was such a big success, we are going to do it again! Information will be coming home on Wednesday February 1 and you will have 10 days to collect orders. Look for your packet!

Ping Pong Party and tournament - Thanks to everyone from the CCLCS community who came out to help us celebrate our first Ping Pong Dance Party and Table Tennis tournament. Congratulations to Bob Sanborn and Allison Tripp, champions of the mixed doubles tournament, and Bob Majewski and his mystery partner, champions of the Open Division. Thanks to Bob Majewski and Vicky Burke for opening up their club, and to Red Faced Jacks for donating the food. We raised over $800 to help subsidize spring field trips!

Student Art Exhibit - Drawing, paintings, prints and sculpture created by our 6th, 7th and 8th grade art classes as well as Art Spark after school arts enrichment program creations are currently on view at the Wellfleet Public Library. There will be an Artist Reception Sunday, February 12, from 2-4 p.m. at the Library.
