Contributions of water bottles may be dropped off at school this week or you may bring them to the dance. Reminder that only students who are present in school on Friday may attend the dance. Sports:

Basketball signups ended today - Please watch for the paperwork to come home this week. It is a 3 day a week commitment for both the players ad the parents as all games are away and practices are after school hours and all will require parental transportation. There are a few games in Dec that will most likely be played by a handful of 8th graders, as there will be no practices before the games and they played together last year. Any questions please email me at ks (at) cclighthouseschool.org

Looking for coaches for both boys and girls basketball - I have had a few names mentioned but no commitments as of yet. If you are interested in giving your time to coach a team please contact me (ks (at) cclighthouseschool.org) as soon as possible. It is basically a 3 day a week commitment from Jan 1 until Feb vacation. There are a few Dec games but I may have two people who would cover those games. Without coaches there will be no basketball. Thank you very much. Mrs. Shick.

Grade 6:

Jupiter Grades - As we transition Jupiter Grades to finalize grades for the first term and then transition to the second, there is a chance it will be difficult (or impossible) to see some assignments this week. We have informed students that they should rely on their Assignment Books for the next few days, and suggest calling a classmate or teacher if necessary. Thanks for understanding...The Sixth Grade Team

Social Studies - Country paragraphs and bibliography due Friday. I sent home an example of the paragraphs today, so that students can see how they may want to format and organize their paragraphs.

Grade 7:

All - We have been talking about the possibility of establishing small student advisory groups at our school for a number of years, and I am excited to tell you that we are embarking on this great adventure on Wednesday! Our 7th Grade will pilot the program, and we hope to be able to add sixth and eighth later this year. Teachers and staff have volunteered to run small (5-7) gender-based groups which will meet once every three weeks for the remainder of the year. These meetings may use a prompt or may simply evolve around topics kids choose. We are hoping that by keeping communications open, celebrating our differences and our similarities, and establishing bonds of trust among peers, we will be continuing to live the words of our mission statement: " We strive to provide an emotionally safe and supportive community, encouraging students to develop their strengths and risk new growth. Our graduates take with them the values of personal responsibility, consideration for others, respect for the environment, academic integrity, creative expression and perseverance." - Mrs. Amaru

Social Studies - Today the Holocaust project was assigned and it is due on December 16. I will load it up to Jupiter ASAP. Please continue discussing this important subject matter with your children; they have a lot of questions and a lot of interesting insights.

Grade 8:

All - Now we move into Pigman, by Paul Zindel. We are working on analyzing characters, conflict, and themes in the novel. We will also be doing some shorter writing prompts to help us analyze the text, which will mimic the MCAS style (a way to prep for MCAS without stopping the curriculum to do it). Students are graded on their journal work and their reading quizzes. We will also learn how to write a comparative lit essay with this novel. MUCH more on that to follow in a week or two. We will start our big GRAMMAR DEMON unit this week, too. Accept or except? Between or among? It's or its? Affect or effect? It's all in there! Look for more information to follow. Finally, I'm hoping to write some poetry later in the week and let our brains relax a bit and get creative.

Reminder of High School Night - 8th grade students and families, come explore your high school options at the CCLCS Family High School Night, tomorrow night, Tuesday, November 29, at 7 pm! We have invited representatives from area public and private schools to talk about their students’ experiences and answer your questions. Come have some dessert and coffee, and take this opportunity to talk one-on-one with principals, directors, guidance and admission staff. Parents, thanks to all who have volunteered! See you there!

Science - Please note that students received a "mini-project" concept map that is due next Wednesday, December 7th.

Social Studies - Constitution Test on Friday! Study guide was handed out in class today. Let me know if there are any questions.

Spanish - Hola! Two assessments for Spanish class that I would like to call your attention to are: a poster project on a famous Hispanic-American, assigned before the Thanksgiving break and due this coming Friday and 2. a quiz on question words and Chapter 6 vocab a week from today (Mon). This is in addition to the regular homework assignments that the students get on a nightly basis. Gracias!
